After 20 years of working with oil paints (for 4 galleries), with tempera and gouache (at that time there were no acrylic paints) I decided on watercolour for the following reason:
I no longer wanted to permit myself the possibility of painting over.
Thus I compare thoughts to action. We can have all kinds of thoughts: good, daring, nice ones, also bad ones. We can change them whenever we like – or retract a thought – nobody notices.
What is spoken, however, must be right.
The word that has been uttered – loudly or quietly – is there and has an effect.Positive or negative,
The same applies to drawing and watercolour.
Drawing and colour are visible with watercolour and cannot be painted over again.
Spontaneity, daring and sureness are absolutely vital.
A spoken word, existing and visible..It is right – or not right!
This “concrete, quick, no longer retractable statement” is what I love in watercolour.
